Morro Jable is one of the main tourist destinations on the island. Although it doesn’t really appeal to me, the area still has natural areas and unspoilt coves to explore.
But it’s well worth getting into a kayak and sailing through these turquoise waters that hide beautiful seabeds.
Kayak rental in Morro Jable
If you want to explore the surroundings of Morro Jable on your own, the best option is to rent a kayak by the hour, without the need to book a guided tour. You’ll be free to make your own way around the area and snorkel around the rocky areas – book online in advance to make sure!
From Morro Jable: boat, snorkelling and dolphin spotting
The meeting point is the port of Morro Jable, from where a catamaran will take you to see dolphins and whales on a 2 hour tour. It also includes a snorkelling stop to enjoy the seabed and marine fauna such as stingrays. Finally tapas are served on the boat to round off a great excursion.
Route and best areas for kayaking in Morro Jable
Natural creeks
I recommend that you sail through the wilder areas on the outskirts of the village of Morro Jable, where there are no people, no shops, no restaurants, no promenade…. All natural.
You can stop at the hidden and sheltered cove of Playa de Las Coloradas where no one will bother you. Or at Playa de La Señora if you keep going, a bit smaller and further away from the village.
They are perfect places to leave your kayak, put on your diving goggles and go snorkelling to see the seabed and the local marine life.
Even so, the village preserves a rocky area that is also ideal for snorkelling, as you can see in the image.
Route to the lighthouse
If you sail in the opposite direction you will reach the Morro Jable lighthouse and the Matorral beach: a long beach with fine white sand. It is true that it is not so far away from civilisation, but it also has some rocky areas for snorkelling and the chiringuito Faro de Jandía at the foot of the beach in case you want to have a drink.
