Kayak Rental in La Caleta (Adeje – Tenerife) – Sailing in an Untouched Paradise

La Caleta (Adeje) is a corner that maintains the charm of the Canary Islands and preserves several natural coves that are practically untouched. An ideal place to rent a kayak and sail along the coast on the route from Playa de los Morteros – Playa Diego Hernández – El Puertito de Adeje.

Small unspoilt paradises that are not accessible by road and where kayaking is your best ally.

The best kayak route from La Caleta

Join me on this wonderful route. I leave you the video so you can see it in less than 1 minute:

Let’s take it one step at a time:

1. La Caleta de Adeje

The starting point for the kayaking adventure is La Caleta, a charming fishing village that preserves its tradition and beauty, with white houses that contrast with the calm turquoise water of the sea.

La Caleta is in Costa Adeje. Although it is a modern tourist area, this corner maintains its essence and calm.

2. Los Morteros beach

A rocky and unspoilt cove with a spectacular seabed. The beach of Los Morteros is protected and has a calm sea, so you can kayak here without any problem.

It can be reached in 20 minutes by kayak from La Caleta and is a place worth exploring also on foot, parking the kayak and taking a stroll around the area, or stopping to soak up the sun.

3. Diego Hernández beach

The Diego Hernández beach is one of the best beaches in the whole of Tenerife, one of the wildest and least known. Also known as the beach of the hippies, it has fine white sand and is not accessible by car.

It’s worth a stop to enjoy the snorkelling and relax in the sun. It is only 30 minutes from La Caleta and it is best to go when the tide is low.

4. El Puertito

The Puertito de Adeje (Armeñime) is an authentic fishing village that resists the degradation of the coast. A magical place for snorkelling where, if you’re lucky, you can see sea turtles.

El Puertito is at risk from a macro tourism project they want to build. An unsustainable project that will break its essence and threaten the local fauna. Check out the Instagram account of Salvar El Puertito.

Tips for kayaking in La Caleta

If it’s your first time kayaking don’t worry, it’s super easy to handle and you’ll learn in a matter of minutes.

However, it is imperative to know how to swim in case you fall into the water at some point.

Here are some tips for kayaking in La Caleta:

  • I recommend that when you leave La Caleta you sail to the right, towards the virgin coves. To the left, on the other hand, is the most touristy area, which is not really fun for me.
  • If you’re looking for sun, better go in the morning, as the afternoon is usually cloudy (especially when it’s not summer).
  • Bring snorkelling goggles or mask to enjoy the seabed when kayaking. You can bring your own equipment or rent it on the spot.
  • If you can choose the day I recommend that you watch the wind and swell, to pill the sea as calm as possible and have better visibility.
  • Take water and something to eat, especially if you want to spend hours sailing and stopping at the beaches in the area.
  • If you’re not tanned enough, take sun cream so you don’t ruin your holiday.
