Diving for beginners in Tenerife South
Is this your first time diving? You won’t regret it in this paradise. Tenerife south has an ecosystem full of marine life, with ideal climatic conditions and crystal clear water as the best window to the underwater world.
You have two options to choose from within the booking calendar:
1. Try dive
- 20 minute baptism: Ideal for those who want to try scuba diving. In just 20 minutes, you will be able to see the incredible marine life of the Bay of Stingrays up close.
- 40-minute baptism: If you are curious and want to spend more time exploring the depths, I recommend the 40-minute baptism. More time to discover, more time to enjoy.
2. Discover Scuba Diving (DSD)
If you want a little more instruction and to learn some basic diving skills, the DSD is for you. You get a short theory and practical lesson before you dive with an instructor. It’s like a trial version of scuba diving, but trust me, once you try it, you’ll want more.
You can also personalise your experience with extras, such as a second baptism or DSD on the same day, transport for your companion, photos of your experience or even a transport from Playa la Arena or Tenerife South.
What exactly does a diving baptism consist of?
This will be your step-by-step experience:
- Start meeting: Your adventure will begin with a chat with your dive instructor. He or she will explain everything you need to know, go over the safety rules with you and answer all your questions. Pay close attention.
- Equipment: Once you are well informed, it’s time to equip yourself for the dive. You’ll put on your wetsuit, fins, regulator (the tube that allows you to breathe underwater), BCD, mask and, of course, your oxygen tank. Your instructor will be there to help you at all times.
- Dive: Equipped and ready, the moment of truth arrives. Your instructor will accompany you throughout the dive. You’ll start in shallow water to get used to breathing underwater and then you’ll dive deeper and deeper into the fascinating underwater world. Depending on the option you choose, you’ll be underwater for between 20 and 40 minutes.
- Discovery: This is where the real excitement begins. You’ll see the amazing marine life up close and personal: colourful fish, corals and if you’re lucky, even turtles and rays. Believe me, it’s an indescribable experience.
- End of dive: When the dive time is over, your instructor will guide you back to the surface. Remember to ascend slowly to avoid decompression problems.
- After the dive: Out of the water, you will be helped to remove your diving equipment. Afterwards, you can chat about your experience, share your impressions and, of course, start planning your next dive.
Some of the most impressive marine species that you can see

With their long, slender bodies, they often hide in crevices and caves.

With their ability to change colour and shape, they are true masters of disguise.

Cuttlefish, similar to octopuses, are known for their ability to change colour.
They are among the few animals that can control the polarisation of the light they reflect, allowing them to communicate using signals that many other animals cannot see.

These little crustaceans are true masters of camouflage. Did you know that they can regenerate their legs if they lose them?
They love to hide in rocks and sand, so keep an eye out for them.

Frequently asked questions
Both are initial dive experiences that do not require any previous knowledge. However, the DSD Padi (Discover Scuba Diving) offers training in which the diver learns basic diving skills. This course serves as the first lesson of the PADI OWD (PADI OPEN WATER DIVER) course. Upon completion of the DSD Padi programme, the diver also receives a diploma.
The time the dive takes depends on the programme you choose. However, the training and preparation for the dive are time-consuming processes, as we never rush the dive sessions. In total, both the preparation and the dive take approximately 2.5 to 3 hours.
The test divers are under the supervision of an instructor, in a maximum ratio of two to one.
Yes, you can book a free transfer from the hotel to the dive centre. The free pick-up is only in the south of Tenerife and comes with certain conditions.
